The skill of understanding complex universal processes is crucial. Global education teaches us to take responsibility not only for ourselves but for others as well. It focuses on developing the ability to understand our present and to create a socially and economically sustainable way of life.

Global education invites us to participate. It can raise an open, empathetic generation ready to take action and to cooperate. Through dialogue, knowledge sharing and action, solutions to the most pressing universal problems, such as climate change, can be found.

Current Projects

Foodies

In Balástya, Budapest, Debrecen and Szeged, 50 young people are working on participatory research projects - formulating their own research questions regarding local practices fostering responsible food consumption. The students of Foodies record, display and interpret the results of their research through participatory videography. They think creatively about the local and global phenomena and social relations concerning food production and consumption. The work of youngsters of different backgrounds is recorded and presented on a common online platform. This way the research of disadvantaged young people, Roma youngsters, teenagers with migrant backgrounds and middle-class pupils from Budapest are brought into dialogue.

Artemisszió Foundation mentors the youth workers of the participating organizations’ (Alternatív Közösségek Egyesülete, Engame Academy, Kameraszínház, KÖZ-Pont Ifjúsági Egyesület, Mira Intercultural Community and Motiváció Műhely) youth workers in facilitating participatory research.

The aim of Foodies is for young people to get to know the world around them from a new perspective through the topic of food consumption and aiding them to form meaningful connections with their peers. In addition, we want to provide the youth organizations with tools and methodologies they can use later in their own practices.

PREVIOUS PROJECTS

Deal with it! - Climate change, sustainable society and economy

A Deal with it! The Deal with it! project calls on young people to take action for a sustainable future, to make their voices heard and to be active participants in EU decisions on climate change. Our activities give them the opportunity to learn about the Green Deal, the EU's role in global climate policy and the importance of European cooperation for a sustainable society and economy.

The main stations within the project are:

  • Living library in partner countries: secondary school students meet and talk to experts on the social and economic aspects of sustainability and climate change.
  • Ifjúsági konferencia Youth conference in Vienna: delegations from partner countries meet to select the environmental, economic and social issues most relevant to their future. The result will be a declaration for a sustainable and inclusive Europe.
  • Public meeting in Brno: delegations finalise the Declaration and present it to invited EU decision-makers.
  • Online exhibition: this is not only an online space to present the Declaration itself with the results of the project, but also an informative educational platform for young people on sustainability.

SAME World

Climate change, environmental justice, refugee and migrant rights - interconnected issues that affect us all, yet are often dealt with in isolation. The SAME World project offered exciting activities and ways for students and teachers to engage around the issues raised, make a difference and take action for our environment.

SAME World was a three-year international project involving 13 partner organisations from 10 countries. Our aim was to raise awareness of the links between the Global South (developing countries) and the Global North (developed countries), with a particular focus on environmental justice. Throughout the project, we held a number of creative workshops (such as digital storytelling) in schools; participated in seminars with teachers abroad; developed pedagogical materials for schools; presented a debate theatre performance in secondary schools; and provided teacher training. The aim of our school activities was to encourage critical thinking among the participating students and to provide them with an international perspective on climate change and environmental migration, as well as a domestic context.
